Welcome to 7th Grade Social Studies! This course combines Kansas History and Civics to help students better understand both the place they call home and the government that serves it. During the first semester, students examine the principles of American government, the Constitution, the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, and the role every citizen plays in a constitutional republic. During the second semester, students explore the people, events, geography, and ideas that shaped Kansas from its earliest inhabitants to the present day.

Throughout the year, students will analyze primary sources, investigate historical questions, participate in discussions and simulations, conduct research, and strengthen their historical thinking and communication skills. More than memorizing names and dates, this course is designed to help students think critically, make informed decisions, and understand how history and citizenship continue to shape the world around them.
