Welcome to 8th Grade United States History! This course explores the people, ideas, conflicts, and decisions that shaped the United States from the establishment of the American colonies through the Reconstruction Era following the Civil War. Students will examine how the nation grew, changed, and struggled to define the principles of freedom, equality, and self-government. Along the way, they will investigate the causes and consequences of major events, study influential historical figures, and consider how the choices of the past continue to influence our lives today.

Throughout the year, students will analyze primary and secondary sources, investigate historical questions, conduct research, participate in discussions and simulations, and strengthen their historical thinking and communication skills. More than memorizing names and dates, this course is designed to help students think critically, evaluate evidence, understand multiple perspectives, and recognize the connections between America's past and the challenges of the present.
